This was one of my favorite commissions!! It was so much fun to do. I was to paint a specified scene from the children's story minus the castle and with a night sky behind it. The client also wanted me to take this antique chest to a dark rich walnut color.
Do you sit on the edge of your bed when you get dressed in the mornings? I used to. I used to struggle to wrench my socks on, getting little to no assistance from my soft, cushy, mattress. Oh, it was horrible I tell you! Practically torture. It was the type of pain that only someone born and bred deep in the comforts of the first world can truly appreciate.That deep, deep, well of pain and suffering taught me that I needed to change something in my life. Yes, that’s right, I needed a good firm dressing bench in my bedroom. Something I could really leverage myself against while I struggle into my garments. They say necessity is the mother of invention, and in this case, I’d have to agree. So I decided to build one!Too over the top? Ok, ok, got it. How about this: I wanted to build a bench for my bedroom and I also wanted to use up some wood I had kicking around so I decided to make this bench. Better? A friend of mine showed up one day with a cedar chest he picked up on the curb. He knew that being the DIY junkie I am, I would put it to good use.
I was at IKEA searching for more storage and seating solutions when I came across this tall storage cube unit and I instantly had an idea!(Check out the video for more how-to's! )
Every time I go to my local Goodwill I find something that can be upcycled. Most the time a quirky desk, headboard or table catches my eye. Usually something tattered and abused and I feel like me bringing it home to slick up is rescuing it. Giving it an Afterlife! Well, one fine morning, walking in saying hi to my friends at the counter, the manager said, "Michelle, I have a treat for you!". Moses brought me over to not one, but two BRAND NEW end of the bed benches! With the TAGS! TWO OF THEM! I said, "OH, MY! How am I supposed to upcycle these?" He said "What if your Unicorn stuff could color the fabric?" I hadn't thought about that! I figured what the heck. I'll give it a try! I did and I couldn't be happier or more excited about the results! So today I'm here with step by step instructions with how to SPiT on FABRiC.
I had a dresser that wasn't reparable for dresser use. I wanted to do something with it because it still had good wood structure and the style is very unique.
Abbey from Painted Home Goods transformed a $5 thrifted bench into this gorgeous piece of home decor with a little help from our limited edition color, Jitterbug!
Here I have a ( Re Purposed ) Bench that use to be a table! It was a lot of hard work but it came out in credibly beautiful.
Bench measures 18H x 40L x 15D Legs are 4 1/2 logs from a tree that fell in my yard. What you can do with spare wood just laying around. Hope you all like this piece. I am glad to share it with you and my friends. Sorry I have to put this up for sale... :(

I have been dreaming of getting a tufted bench that I could place at the foot of my bed for years now. The only problem it was always ridiculously priced out of my range. Home decorations may just might be the most expensive part of home ownership, Hahaha. So when given the opportunity to work with Osborne Wood Products I was so excited. While shopping for my guest room nightstand, I stumbled upon this little bench at the thrift store. It looked unloved and malnourished, but I saw potential…so, home it went with me. The room I am working with is small so there isn’t much room for extra furniture. I had this huge old mirror that I had bought at the thrift store long before, and I had recently purchased an interesting shelf that I thought would look great under the mirror. Once I saw the bench, I knew this trio of pieces would become the perfect vanity – even if it was only a few inches of space to work with!
This wood/laminate toy chest has resided in our house for years. Our oldest son, Ryan, had it in his room. He stuck stickers on it, and beat it up pretty good. As he got older it left his room and became a chest for anything we had that we didn't know where else to store it. I was determined to make it useful again. It was still a solid chest, but it was ugly.
I found this sad little brown cedar chest at a church rummage sale. The veneer was coming off everywhere, but it was so cute, or could be! It managed to drive me crazy along the way. I wanted to share my journey with this darling thing. I was in over my head from the moment I got it home, but it all turned out in the end! I am not a furniture re-finisher, I hope this encourages someone to try new things, especially Unicorn Spit where you least expect it.

I then went to Goodwill and found an old coffee table for $10, and headed over to another local thrift store and bought an unused curtain for $4. It is still one of my favorite projects - cheap, easy, and beautiful.

I'm planning on making a window seat. However the issue I'm having is the heat vent is under the window. Any ideas how to still put the bench seat there without moving the vent?

The project: DIY Old, second-hand footstool converted into a sweet little children’s bench!
This is what I had to start with.... got it on the cheap but could see the potential. It's 6' long and had huge drawers.
This cedar chest had seen better days when I got it. Veneer was missing & bubbling, broken leg but the top was gorgeous. So I knew I could give it new life & for enjoyment for many more generations.
In this tutorial, a vintage blanket chest gets a pick-me-up with two colors of General Finishes Milk Paint, and the inside shines like new with the help of a citrus oil polish.
My wife and I had put off purchasing our own bedroom furniture for the longest time. Instead, we concentrated on raising our 5 kids. Well, 13yrs into marriage we are finally entering the grown-up world and replacing the hand me down stuff with our own. As a stay at home dad, soon to loose his day job as my youngest heads to all day school next fall, I thought this might be a great opportunity to pursue my my hobbies of recycling used furniture and wood working.
